Tunisia Holidays

Tunisia HolidaysAn ancient land heavily influenced by both European and African cultures, Tunisia makes for an intriguing holiday break.

Religious icons such as the Sousse mosque can be found dotted all over this fair land, whilst ancient towns such as Monastir and El Djem exhibit impressive heritage sites, with the likes of an ancient 30,000 capacity Roman Coliseum on show. Nearby, the city of Sfax, situated along the Gulf of Gabes, makes for fascinating viewing, as many shops and market stalls play homage to it’s past glories as a former Barbary pirate base, mainly through the seafaring related articles, such as telescopes and other memorabilia on show.

Fans of Sci – Fi will love Matmata, which was famously used as the ‘troglodyte village’ in Star Wars Episode 4; just walking round the village invokes memories of famous scenes. Should you be looking for a little shopping jaunt, then the vast markets of Gabes make for an intriguing wander; everything from spice to silk, glassware to woodwork can be purchased here at a very reasonable price. Should you feel like a peaceful walk in the beating Tunisian sun, then you can even diverse to the desert outpost of Douz before returning to the main city.
