Piazza Tasso is where it all happens, you’ll find bars and restaurants aplenty dotted around this lively square. Why not go for a stroll through the cobbled streets and alleyways that characterise the old historic quarter? The 15th-century cathedral is worth a visit and take time to admire the many fine old mansions. Via Comunale is lined with majestic trees and flower beds and leads to a seaside terrace that affords amazing views of the Bay of Naples and the seemingly ever-present summit of Vesuvius.
There are two public beaches: Marina Piccola and Marina Grande. The former is protected by a jetty, whilst the latter features wooden bathing platforms.

When in Italy: buy clothes! You’ll find good prices, great styles and excellent quality whether you’re looking for high fashion or something casual to wear to the beach. Wine is worth buying and you’ll also find a great selection of liqueurs including the famous local limoncello. Good olive oil will cost you less here than back home and there are some delicious deli’ products on offer too.

Stick to the local specialities and eating well won’t cost you a fortune – the local seafood is excellent by the way. Naples is a fantastic place and very much the heart beat of the region and you don’t have to be an avid reader of history to appreciate the unique ‘frozen in time’ spectacle that is Pompeii.
