Holiday Itinerary

DAY 1: UK - Munich area.
Fly to Munich where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay.

DAY 2: Munich area - Passau.
Leave Munich for the busy Bavarian port of Passau, where you will join your river cruise ship, MS Amadeus Rhapsody, setting sail in the evening. (B, D)

DAY 3: Vienna.
Enjoy an included city sightseeing tour that takes in many attractions of this charming and historic city, the seat of the famous Habsburg dynasty for over 600 years. Drive along the Ringstrasse, taking in the historic landmarks, including the Austrian National Opera, Parliament and university, before heading to the heart of the city to the Stephensdom, Vienna's splendid cathedral. Enjoy time at leisure relaxing in one of the city's elegant coffee houses. (B, L, D)

DAY 4: Budapest.
Next we cruise on to one of Europe's most beautiful cities, Budapest, arriving late morning. Enjoy an included sightseeing tour of the city, taking in the sights of the twin cities of Buda and Pest, standing either side of the river and linked by seven bridges, including the splendid Chain and Elisabeth bridges. The city is best known for its quaint castle district and its cobblestone streets lined with medieval houses, inns and antique shops, where you will visit the church of St Matthias and Fisherman's Bastion. DAY 5: Kalocsa.
Spend time at leisure exploring the historic town of Kalocsa, set on terraces above the Danube, where the second archbishopric of Hungary was founded in 1002. Or why not take an optional excursion to the nearby Puszta, where you will see a memorable display of Hungarian horsemanship? This evening, we continue sailing to Budapest. (B, L, D)

DAY 6: Budapest - Esztergom.
In the morning, enjoy time at leisure further exploring the sights of Budapest. After lunch why not take an optional excursion to the picturesque village of Szentendre, known for its museums, galleries and artists? Alternatively continue cruising to the imposing ruined fortress of Visegrad, with spectacular views of the Danube Bend. Rejoin the ship in historic Esztergom, Hungary's oldest town and birthplace of St Stephen, crowned by a colossal hilltop Basilica. (B, L, D)

DAY 7: Bratislava - Vienna.
Our next port of call is the charming Slovakian capital, Bratislava. See many beautiful monuments including the impressive castle, formerly a frontier post of the Roman empire, overlooking the Danube and the ornate Primate's and Mirbach Palaces on an included sightseeing tour. A walk through the historic old centre takes you past St Martin's cathedral and the Michael Gate, through medieval lanes to the city's central square. In the afternoon, continue sailing to Vienna, arriving before dinner. (B, L, D)

DAY 8: Emmersdorf.
This morning we arrive in the wine-growing town of Emmersdorf. Today's optional excursion takes in the lovely Wachau Valley, where green vineyards alternate with serene medieval monasteries and imperious castles, before visiting the riverside town of Melk. Explore the stunning Benedictine Abbey, founded in 1089, and enjoy spectacular views of the Danube and surrounding countryside before returning to your ship. (B, L, D)

DAY 9: Passau - Munich.
We arrive back in Passau and disembark after breakfast. Return to Munich for an overnight stay and time to do some more exploring. (B)

DAY 10: Munich - UK.
Transfer to Munich airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)

    Your cruise includes full board. The main restaurant has large picture windows on both sides, and accommodates all guests in one sitting. Lunch usually includes hot or cold appetisers, soups and a selection of entrees and desserts while dinner is an elegant affair with a choice of both traditional and regional options. Vegetarian meals and any special dietary requirements should be requested at the time of booking.
