Enjoy a cultural experience like no other as you cruise the dramatic splendours of Norway's coast, crossing the Arctic Circle to Kirkenes and back again, on a modern, working mail ship. Hurtigruten's impressive fleet plays a vital role in the Norwegian community, carrying passengers, mail and supplies to over thirty ports of call including large modern cities, remote isles, and tranquil hamlets. Unlike traditional cruises, Hurtigruten ships visit ports far from the traditional tourist routes, yet still offer comfort and service to their passengers and a friendly, informal atmosphere on board. As you sail, almost always in sight of land, you'll see Norway as the Norwegian's see it, ripe with lush flora and scented forests, and basking in perpetual daylight as the sun glints from snow-capped peaks and glacial, crystal-clear fjords.

Holiday Itinerary

DAY 1: UK - Bergen.
Fly to Bergen, where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel for one night.

DAY 2: Bergen.
Enjoy time at leisure in Bergen, known as the 'Wooden City'. Bergen is the country's second largest city and the gateway to the fjords, presenting a myriad of picturesque sights. Explore the ancient Bryggen area, with its beautifully preserved wooden Hanseatic buildings dating back to medieval times. In the evening you will be transferred to your cruise ship, MS Nordkapp, for embarkation. Your cruise includes full board from dinner tonight until lunch on day 13. (B, D)

DAY 3: Ålesund - Geirangerfjord.
This morning, arrive in the beautiful art nouveau town of Ålesund at the entrance to the spectacular Geirangerfjord. After time admiring this fascinating little town, sail into Geirangerfjord. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this natural wonder boasts dramatic cliffs, roaring waterfalls and soaring mountains, all mirrored in crystal-clear waters. Afterwards, there's the opportunity to join an optional shore excursion, offering you mesmerising views over the fjord from land. (B, L, D)

DAY 4: Trondheim.
Norway's original capital was rebuilt in the 17th century and stands against a stunning natural backdrop. There's time to explore this vibrant medieval city, with its montage of handsome, old and new architecture. Enjoy an optional visit to Nidaros Cathedral, the country's largest medieval church, and to Ringve Gård, an absorbing manor-house music museum boasting a stunning collection of 2,000 musical instruments gathered from all over the world. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: Ørnes - Bodø - Svolvær.
Experience the unique thrill of passing into the Arctic Circle in the early hours today as you approach Ørnes for a dawn arrival. Once docked, there's the chance to marvel at Norway's second largest glacier, the blue-iced Svartisen, on an optional excursion, before reboarding in Bodø. Alternatively, use the buzzing town of Bodø as the springboard for an optional Sea Eagle Safari - an exciting trip where you'll hopefully spot Europe's largest predatory bird. The day comes to an unforgettable close in Svolvær, the beautiful harbour-capital of the fairytale Lofoten Islands. (B, L, D)

DAY 6: Tromso.
Soak up the views of the colourful fishing towns of Norway's coast this morning, as you sail towards Tromso. As the launchpad for many Arctic expeditions, this charming city is dubbed the 'Gateway to the Arctic'. This afternoon, join the optional sightseeing tour of the town for a visit to the breathtaking Arctic Cathedral, famed for its enormous, triangular, stained glass window. (B, L, D)

DAY 7: Hammerfest - Honningsvag.
After an early morning stop in Hammerfest, arrive in Honningsvag, the largest fishing village in Finnmark and the final stepping stone to the awesome North Cape, mainland Europe's northernmost point. Again, there's a choice of optional excursions - either marvel at the epic beauty of the North Cape Plateau or travel to the quaint fishing settlement of Gjesvær to experience the Gjesværstappan Nature Reserve, which plays host to over three million nesting birds. (B, L, D)

DAY 8: Kirkenes.
Today marks a key point in your cruise with your arrival in Kirkenes, located in the furthest reaches of northern Europe just 10 kilometres from Russia, and an important German garrison during World War II. This morning, there is an opportunity to visit the Russian border at Storskog on an optional excursion. Reboard your ship this afternoon to begin your southward journey. (B, L, D)

DAY 9: Hammerfest - Tromso.
Start the day with a flourish on an optional North Cape excursion, where you'll tuck into a special breakfast. From there, enjoy another stop in Hammerfest, the world's most northerly town, whose people claim they were the first to introduce electric street lighting. This evening, stop in Tromso and enjoy an optional folk concert in its amazing Arctic Cathedral. (B, L, D)

DAY 10: Harstad - Svolvær.
This morning, arrive in Harstad and learn about the region's fascinating history on an optional shore excursion. Experience another highlight afterwards, with an unforgettable trip into Trollfjord, a theatrically narrow fjord flanked by precipitous cliffs. From here, it's on to Svolvær where you can continue the scenic thrills with an optional excursion through the enchanting Lofoten Islands, with their wooden, stilted cabins, soaring mountains and tiny waterfront hamlets where noisy seabirds fly overhead. Re-join the ship in Stamsund. (B, L, D)

DAY 11: At sea.
Enjoy a relaxing day at sea today as you recross the Arctic Circle line and sail past the towering peaks of the famous Dancing Seven Sisters Mountains. (B, L, D)

DAY 12: Trondheim.
An early morning return to picturesque Trondheim today before your ship sails southwards through Trondheimsfjord and past Hitra Island. This evening, sail past the fjord town of Molde, famed for its breathtaking setting amid 87 snow-capped mountains. (B, L, D)

DAY 13: Bergen - UK.
Cruise past the increasingly lush landscapes of Norway's southern shores before arriving in Bergen. Disembark and transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK. (B, L)

Note: Optional excursions are seasonal and may not operate on some departures. Alternatives may be provided and all excursions can be booked on board.
