DAY 2: Vancouver. Included sightseeing.
Stunning is the only word for this beautiful city clasped between snow-tipped mountains and the Pacific Ocean's Burrard Inlet. Named after Royal Navy Captain George Vancouver who arrived here in 1792, Vancouver overflows with scenic delights and unique attractions. During this morning's sightseeing, you'll see Stanley Park, the city's lake-filled central park, charming Gastown, exotic Chinatown and the magnificent harbourfront. This afternoon, why not catch a water taxi to Granville Island to enjoy its buzzing outdoor markets, street entertainments and waterfront cafés?
DAY 3: Vancouver - Minter Gardens - Kelowna - Vernon.
This morning, travel south to the stunning Minter Gardens, a 'manicured' showpiece nestled beneath Mount Cheam. Next, we take the dramatic Pennask Pass, British Columbia's second highest highway, on our way to Kelowna on Okanagan Lake. After sampling some of British Columbia's wines at a charming local winery, we visit the O'Keefe Historical Ranch in Vernon for dinner and a rollicking western-style show. Once the largest cattle ranch in British Columbia, this heritage site boasts museums, shops and a fully restored ranch mansion.
DAY 4: Vernon - Revelstoke - Golden.
Today we travel north along magnificent Shuswap Lake stopping at Craigellachie, where the 'final spike' of the vast Canadian Pacific Railway was driven. Later, tour the superb Railway Museum at Revelstoke, which tells the dramatic story of the Canadian Pacific Railway with its restored steam locomotives and fascinating photo galleries. This evening, why not join an optional gondola ride up Kicking Horse Mountain for dinner and a visit to a Grizzly Bear Refuge. Overnight in Golden, in the heart of scenic Kicking Horse Country.
DAY 5: Golden - Yoho National Park - Lake Louise - Banff.
Today we enter spectacular Yoho National Park - a natural wilderness of jewel-coloured glacial lakes, soaring waterfalls and thick cedar forests. The Park is also famed for its Burgess Shale fossil find, where the remains of marine creatures dating back 530 million years were discovered. Afterwards we arrive at Lake Louise, Canada's 'diamond in the wilderness'. Its glassy waters create a perfect natural mirror, reflecting the epic peaks and glaciers surrounding it. Arrive in Banff, the popular Canadian vacation resort.
DAY 6: Banff.
Set in pristine Banff National Park and flanked by the snow-clad Rockies, Banff offers a wealth of outdoor activities, together with bustling shops, luxurious hot springs and stunning gardens. Today is yours to revel in the unspoilt beauty and fresh mountain air.
DAY 7: Banff - Columbia Icefield - Jasper.
Bid farewell to Banff as we travel along one of the world's most scenic highways - the Icefields Parkway. This magnificent road traverses the rugged Rockies and en route, you'll enjoy photo stops at Peyto Lake, Bow Lake and Athabasca Falls, a phenomenal canyon waterfall. Next is an unforgettable snowcoach ride over the 1,200-foot-thick Athabasca Glacier. This incredible 6 kilometre tongue of ice stands on the Columbia Icefield - a vast expanse of ice and snow that feeds eight major glaciers. After regaining your breath from these heart-stopping sights, we travel on to Jasper for an overnight stay.
Note: Please note that your snowcoach excursion is dependent on favourable weather conditions.
DAY 8: Jasper - Rocky Mountaineer Fraser Discovery Route - Quesnel.
Today heralds the start of your epic two-day, all-daylight journey on the new Rocky Mountaineer Fraser Discovery Route through countryside made famous by British Columbia's early Gold Rush. The 1,034-kilometre route, named after 1800's explorer Simon Fraser, weaves through British Columbia's wild interior from Jasper to Whistler. After boarding the Rocky Mountaineer, you'll pass through the spectacular Rocky Mountain Trench ringed by the Rocky and Cariboo Mountains before traversing the rolling hills and deep forests of northern British Columbia. Sights include glaciated Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, Yellowhead Pass and Moose Lake, a vast, crystal-clear body of water ringed by towering peaks. Watch along the way for the grizzly bears, elk and moose that roam this untouched wilderness. In the afternoon, arrive at historic Quesnel for an overnight stay in this charming town, once the centre of the 1800's Gold Rush. (B,L)
Note: See our website for more Rocky Moutaineer Fraser Discovery Route details.
DAY 9: Quesnel - Rocky Mountaineer Fraser Discovery Route - Whistler.
Your journey continues as your train glides through an ever-changing montage of dramatic scenery towards Whistler. Marvel at the precipitous Fraser Canyon, cross the Deep Creek Bridge, one of the world's highest railway bridges, and thrill as your train hugs a narrow shelf between sheer cliffs and sparkling Anderson Lake. At journey's end, disembark for an overnight stay in Whistler. (B, L)
DAY 10: Whistler - Whistler Mountaineer - Vancouver.
Today brings another unforgettable railroad journey, this time on the legendary Whistler Mountaineer through the spellbinding scenery of the 'Sea to Sky' region to Vancouver. On your way, the train winds through deep ancient forests, lush valleys and wonderful seascapes - so make sure you have your camera ready. Highlights include the impressive Cheakamus Canyon, thunderous Shannon Falls and stupendous Howe Sound and Coast Mountains. On arrival at North Vancouver station, transfer to your downtown hotel for an overnight stay.
DAY 11: Vancouver - Victoria. Included sightseeing.
This morning set sail across the Strait of Georgia to Vancouver Island, home to Victoria. This lovely city combines a proud British history with the heritage of its 'First Nations' - the native people whom Captain Cook encountered on his arrival here in 1778. This afternoon, our sightseeing covers the city's breathtaking Butchart Gardens, elegant Bastion Square and Thunderbird Park with its fine totem pole displays. Tonight enjoy our optional harbour cruise excursion and dinner at a waterfront restaurant.
