Destination of the Month - New England in the Fall
In some things timing really is crucial. That’s why Cosmos Tourama always offer a touring holiday to New England in the Autumn, or Fall as it’s known on the other side of the Atlantic. At this time of year this already scenic part of the world is a blaze of warm Autumn colours with fabulous golden forests stretching as far as the eye can see. New England in the Fall is so beautiful it really has to be seen to be believed; yet this meticulously planned Cosmos Tourama touring holiday has plenty of other things to offer besides spectacular scenery.
Have A Whale of a Time in New England
Heading North East out of New York City sees you heading for some of America’s most beautiful and most exclusive resorts – generally speaking, when money leaves New York it ends up here! New Haven is home to prestigious Yale University, while Newport (of Jazz festival fame) Rhode Island and Cape Cod boast some of the USA’s most sought after post codes.
But you don’t have to be a Wall Street success story to enjoy this rather lovely neck of the woods! Aside from the real estate you’ll notice a sumptuous back-drop of Autumn scenery that seems to feature trees decked in every imaginable permutation of red, gold, green and brown.
From Plymouth you’ll leave the fabulous foliage behind and exchange it for the open sea when you’re taken on a whale-watching cruise where, under the guidance of a marine biologist, you’ll hopefully see Humpback whales, porpoises as well as a rich variety of bird life.
Party in Boston – Discover the Cradle of American Liberty
Touring New England in the Fall is something of an educational experience from a historical point of view too. In many ways this is where the Old World met the New and where America as we know it was born. Plymouth is where the Pilgrim Fathers landed in 1620 and, for a flavour of their journey, you can visit a superb reproduction of the Mayflower that actually made the trans-Atlantic voyage again some 50 years ago.
Boston is one of America’s most beautiful cities and it has had a pivotal role in shaping the United States. Your included sightseeing tour will provide an appreciation of Boston’s history as well as showing you all the key sights. You’ll also have time to explore the city at your own pace to sample its excellent museums and, perhaps, the fine New England Aquarium?
A Taste of New Hampshire
Heading up the beautiful New Hampshire coastline to Ogunquit there’s an opportunity to enjoy some of the local delicacies like Maine lobster, clams and corn on the cob on the optional lobster bake excursion.
New England’s spectacular scenery will continue to wow you as you head through acres of birch, oak and maple on your way to Lake Winnipesakee one of this regions most spectacular stretches of water. Naturally there was an included cruise so you can really appreciate the beauty of this area and, best of all; the cruise is aboard MS Mount Washington an immaculately restored period vessel.
Wild Cat Mountain will offer spectacular views across to Canada especially for those who opt for the chair lift ride to the summit. Vermont is impossibly lovely and an overnight stay in Montpelier will help you appreciate just where Billy Holiday was coming from when she sang ‘Moonlight in Vermont’ in a voice as sweet as the local maple syrup – you’ll get to try some of this too along with the excellent local cider.
To Lake Placid, Saratoga and Home
The final leg of your journey now but the scenery is still as spectacular as ever. You travel by ferry as you cross Lake Champlain into the state of New York. Lake Placid is as picturesque as anywhere you’ve seen on your travels and this exclusive winter sports resort has an illustrious history and hosted both the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. An included orientation tour will help you make the most of – next stop - Saratoga a lovely slice of Victorian Americana.
New York, New York… and New England
One of the best things about this particular touring holiday is that it allows you to combine all the vibrant scenery of New England with a bite at the Big Apple too. How big a bite depends on how hungry you are for NYC! On the standard tour you’ll overnight in New York prior to your tour but Cosmos Tourama also offer two or four night post tour stays at the brand new Holiday Inn, Manhatten located right in the middle of the fashionable West Side.
Once you’re ensconced in your hotel you’re free to enjoy everything that the ‘City that Never Sleeps’ can offer - and that of course is plenty! Shopping is simply world class and is made all the more tempting by the favourable exchange rate; expect to find designer cloths at what translate into knockdown prices!
Naturally there’s more to New York than retail therapy and visits to the Empire State Building, Broadway and the Statue of Liberty come highly recommended. Elsewhere, great museums like the Guggenheim vie with great eateries and that certain special New York hustle and bustle.
