Starting with Athens, itself given the prestigious moniker of ‘Mother of Democracy’, you will find a whole host of incredibly poignant and powerful structures that symbolise the very crux of the modern culture as we know it.
First off, there is the incredible stone Acropolis to grab your attention; it’s sheer magnitude, impressive columns and intricately carved stone reliefs are an awesome spectacle, one that really brings home how accurate and forward in their thinking the ancient Greeks were. Close by you will find a museum exhibiting excavated artefacts dating back thousands of years ago illustrating the early existence of this knowledgeable society. After you have given your mind a mental workout, why not take the time to relax and oversee a stunning panoramic view over the city from Philoppapou Hill, a truly serene setting.

If the thought of bathing on a secluded warm Mediterranean beach takes your fancy, then you will love the islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra, each of which have their own unique charm.
For instance, Poros is a lush island with a maze of narrow streets, whilst Aegina’s landscape is awash with dense forestry on account of the area being the main producer of pistachio nuts in Greece, while Hydra is home to a large artist community and beautiful boutiques line the scenic harbour. Should you wish to spend a little time partying, you will revel in the lively atmosphere of the tavernas and nightclubs in the old Plaka district with its signature narrow streets and lively bouzouki music elevating the mood.
If you wish to further indulge yourself in Greek festivities, journey to Argolis to make a stop in Epidaurus, a quaint town located in hilly, pine tree swathed forestry. It is here that you will encounter the magnificent open-air theatre, still able to seat and entertain some 14,000 spectators with theatre and operatic performances.

Of course, a visit to Greece simply wouldn’t be the same without a close look at some simply breathtaking ancient ruins. One area simply chock full of such architecture is Mycenae, a city fortress accursed of the Gods, rich in gold and monuments depicting warrior kings. This ‘City rich in gold’ as Homer referred to it is where the Golden Mask of Agamemnon and many other treasures unearthed here are displayed, reachable by walking through the magnificent Lion’s Gate and wandering up to Agamemnon's Royal Palace. Not far from here is the world famous theatre of Epidaurus, which constantly displays some of the worlds most intricate plays and musicals. Close by is Corinth Canal, the seamlessly endless waterway that stretches all the way to Athens.

Besides being shrouded in many a myth, Greece, and more in particular the city of Olympia, gave birth to the Olympics, where many a mortal man has transcended to become a legend. Created to engage the people in the spectacle of sport rather than fighting wars for the Greek Empires once every 4 years, the Olympic Games, first held in 776 BC, were a sacred precinct to the God Zeus, whose temple once housed one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Around Olympia, you will find not only the original ancient stadium of the first games, but also temples dedicated to the worshipping of Zeus and of his wife Hera, as well as many museums displaying artefacts such as weaponry and ceramics dug up from the surrounding area.
Before heading onto the mythical city of Delphi, take the time to stop and look around Patras, the west coast’s largest port, taking in the impressive St. Andrews Church, before heading over the spectacular Rion-Antirion bridge and onto Delphi.
